This is an informational website and should not be used to replace other public safety sources.     If Severe Weather is threatening please tune in to your local television, radio or NOAA weather radio for information.

The purpose of the SKYWARN® program is to train people in the general knowledge of storm structure, Important items to report and general storm safety.   It is used as a tool for local NWS offices across the country for helping make decisions on whether or not certain warnings should be issued due to reporting criteria.   Spotters are not the same as chasers in that they are trained by the NWS to look for and report certain things that could save lives of civilians.   SKYWARN® groups are usually county based groups and consist of Amateur Radio Operators, Fire, EMS and Law enforcement and people from the general public.   Anyone can be trained as a spotter. Just look for the closest training for your area, which are usually held in the Spring of every year.

The Seneca county EOC is located at the top of the Seneca County Public Safety Building. The Seneca Radio Club, also holds meetings here. We are an Amateur Radio Club with a growing number of members. Several members are involved in SKYWARN® as well as A.R.E.S.®(Amateur Radio Emergency Services)

When severe weather threatens the Seneca County area, spotters are sometimes called to service. If a severe weather watch is issued for the county, and storms look to move in soon, a net will be brought up on the 145.450 repeater. Usually this will cause the net to be put into condition Green.

If a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, the net will move to condition Yellow. Severe weather reports are taken and relayed to the NWS office in Cleveland.

The highest level the net will move to is condition Red, for a Tornado Warning. In this case the net only accepts traffic relating to Tornadoes, Funnel clouds and wall clouds, or severe damage and life threatening emergencies.
